The art of Alfred Jason Lindell
Alfred Jason Lindell
A native North Dakotan,
Jason Lindell’s work is
intrinsically tied to the prairie
landscape and the inherent
spirituality he finds within it.
His work also addresses
mass production,
consumerism, and the loss
of “sense of place” in
relation to the out-migration
of the rural Great Plains. He
has worked professionally as
a stained and fused glass
artist for six years and as an independent businessman for five years.
Born January 14, 1976, in Walsh County, North Dakota, he was raised on the
rural Northern Plains. He left the state after high school graduation, and
upon returning to North Dakota, Lindell spent a year working at a stained
glass studio learning the craft of traditional leaded glass fabrication and
restoration. It was during this time he was first introduced to the concept of
fusing, the ages old art of layering and melting glass. Fascinated by the
processes and possibility of design, he taught himself the art of fusing.
In 2002, he returned to his hometown of Park River and purchased a 1920 Neo-
Jeffersonian church. He has renovated it into his living space and studio,
Sundog Glass Design. Lindell’s work includes panels, bowls, tiles, and
jewelry as well as incorporation into stained glass windows. He is currently
North Dakota’s only professional fuser.
Lindell is a founding member and Vice-chair of New Bohemia, ND; serves on
various committees as a liaison between the arts and economic developers;
and is an award-winning ambassador for the state of North Dakota through
the ND Department of Commerce. He is a member of the Park River
Community Development Corporation; a board member for Preservation, ND;
and an executive board member of the North Dakota Council on the Arts until
2010. His work can be seen in homes and churches throughout the region.
